That's exactly what a wide open thermostat feels like. It's just as cold here, and I had this problem with my e34 last year. Driving at highway speeds makes no difference as far as warming up an engine with a bad thermostat. When the car sits at idle, the coolant will heat up a bit easier...

O2 sounds like the culpirt... if you're going to change the one on the driver side, you might as well change both while you're under there. As far as I can tell, the heater on your 02 sensor has failed, meaning you have to relplace the whole unit.

They're using ATF right? not power steering fluid? My girlfriends E30 was squeeling like a pig, because someone put stop-leak and power steering fluid in it, and it felt like there was no PS, especially when it was cold... I drained it all, put ATF in it, and she runs like a champ now. Oh, and...

My thoughts exactly... I had problems with my E34 leaking fluid, causing air pockets, and blowing warm air. Run the car with the bleeder screw off for a while... (10 minutes)

I don't want to tell you what I think of Trans-Ams, and last time I drove a 3 series, I had speed, performance, and (a bit) of luxury... to go along with good design, a well balanced chassis, crazy brakes, and a nice comfy interior, and quality above all else.

Drive them both and you'll know... unless you really like "power stripes" on your car, and not being able to see the front end from the driver seat. What would you rather get pulled over in? Seriously, what are your actual concerns? gas mileage, safety, looks, coolness, handling, resale...
