Is it an e30 or E36? What engine? what kind of mechanic tells you to change the spark plugs?... (bad advice) Could be something stupid like a bad ground strap, or something expensive like the ECU. Best thing you can have done is have the fault codes read by some one with the equipment.

I had the whole bracket (part #1) break in half... I heard it break, but it drove okay until you stopped, and then sounded like crap. The mounts are well know to fail over time too.

I'm assuming you're talking about oem replacement parts... I find it's always easier to have a good import parts guy in your city. Very rarely have I had to order things from the internet that are cheaper than my parts guy. But if you need parts and can't get them cheap at home, don't use...

I hear your problem about the manuals not covering the E30 M42 cars, but if you buy the E36 (and Z3) manual, it covers the M42/M44 engine. Have you pulled any of the wires off the coils? Might have pulled the wire out of the boot a little.
