I've done one m20 swap, and only had a minor vacuum problem. You screwed the big plastic connector from the harness to the ECU connection? You attached the ground wire from the block to the body... if you did, did it make good contact?

I'm not too sure if they'll work on your car... do you have sealed beams to begin with? ...and I lose points for not putting the light in the instrument cluster... but I will.

I would find a used one if I were you... cheaper than a new one, faster to replace than having to rebuild, only to find that the gears may be shot.
