I wouldn't think it would be the fuel system, surely the mechanics would have checked that first. These problems suck... could be anything. -bad ground from the block to the body (rusted all to hell, or lose)? -cracked intake boot (creating vacuum leak)? -fuel pressure regulator? -ECU problems...

they don't suit the car at all.

Awesome, I did the same thing with my old 325e when I swapped my engine... loud as hell!! I was just happy that it started up!

Depends... some E30's had ellipsoid lights, some were just regular sealed beams. Not too sure if the E28 5 series had them, or the 6 or 7 for that matter.

what kind of lights are in there, just sealed beam or the projection lenses? If they're just sealed beam, Hella and Bosch make a direct H4 replacent.
