Dinan is in California... I was just browsing through their site and I found this in their New Product posts. Should interest you. Big Daddy has a Dinan Roadster, and I have Dinan chips in both my cars, so we can certainly vouch for them.

This was the big piece of metal that I was thinking about. I have one of these in my trunk because my battery is up front, but apparently the 323i' s don't have one of these, so I can't undersand why...
I wouldn't recommend doing 7000rpm... not too safe for the cams. The limiter is in the chip in the ECU under your dashboard and has probably been swapped for a performance chip. Not too familiar with a E28 528i in North America, just with the 528e... which the is low reving and even when...

I wouldn't think it would be the fuel system, surely the mechanics would have checked that first.
These problems suck... could be anything.
-bad ground from the block to the body (rusted all to hell, or lose)?
-cracked intake boot (creating vacuum leak)?
-fuel pressure regulator?
-ECU problems...
funny how it's an '84 with the elipsoid lights. good luck finding half decent used ones.
(I'll get those updated pics up soon... on the weekend when it's not raining every day)

Cheers! Happy Birthday!! I just got my new computer up and running... so now I've gotta take lots of pics of the cabrio for ya. I haven't even taken any pics since I lowered it.
I used to have one of those exact switches in my old 86 325e. It was for a set of Autopal 100w/each flood lights...
