With the special attention of representatives of the international press, the X-raid BMW X3CC for the Rally Dakar was presented on 12-06-05 in Graz, Austria.
The vehicle concept, developed under the central coordination of MAGNA STEYR, and the most important developmental advances were presented at a press conference at the birthplace of the X-raid BMW X3CC. In addition, there was insight into technical details of the “heart” of the X3CC- a BMW six cylinder in-line diesel engine with variable twin turbo technology.
For the upcoming Dakar (12-31-05 to 01-15-06), the Trebur by Frankfurt based team is sending three BMW X3CCs and an advanced model of the BMW X5CC piloted by José Luis Monterde (SP) and co-piloted by Tiziano Siviero (IT) to the desert rally that goes from Lisbon, Portugal to Dakar, Senegal. Manager Sven Quandt seemed confident about the ca. 9,000 kilometer pursuit: “I think we’re well-equipped for the Dakar 2006 and as far as we’re concerned it could start today. Thanks to major support on the part of BMW Steyr with the engine development and MAGNA STEYR with the chassis construction of our vehicle, we are exceptionally well-prepared. Our goal is to have one car finish in the top-five overall. Two cars in the top-ten of the Rally Dakar 2006 would be optimal.”
