I agree with Gary, but your question is rather broad. What do you need to know? The S models of course are a bit faster and handle better. Over here you have to wait to get on a list.

mini's a cool little car, but i think its a bit over priced.

the ride is also stiff, and highway ride was pretty choppy. then again, we were just gunning that thing up and down during the testdrive, so i can't attest for a normal everyday drive.

A review (03/05) from a new F1 racer, who owns a mini S 05', test drove a VW GTI. He said the GTI has more power with the new engine. Corner handling is better than mini S. Setting of the gears of mini tends to be more highway drive. That means mini S pick up slower than GTI.

The above were the Con, and the Pro are dealer charges $80 for diagnostic fee every time the engine light is on. Battery die for no reason every day you wake up in the morning w/ new alternator replaced every 3 months. Be prepare with a extra battery jump start. Windchill wiper not working in the rain. etc... Hope the above only happens to older models. Those are true stories from my close friends.

I know many Mini owners (no pun intended) and none have had the problems you mention. They all say the Mini is a super handler and track car, and the S model has plenty of power. Of course they did not get the model with the "windchill" wipers so that may be the reason..hehe! [joke]

Guess the radius of the 1st gear shall be a bit bigger to solve that issue for racing purpose. But for daily use, mini S is more than excellent.

We have a 2004 Mini Cooper S and my husband drives it 125 miles round trip to work in San Diego. It isn't as smooth as his GMC Sierra but it gets much better gas mileage. It's a great car. I have a permanent smile everytime we take it out cruising around town on the weekends. Fun car!!! We love it. [clap]

Hey TiAg! Welcome Aboard! Nice to have you here! I drive 60 miles round trip to work. It takes me a little bit more than an hr to get to work. I don't have much patience with traffic. The only thing I can do, is keep skipping songs with the buttons on the steering wheel, that control my iPod. [:o]

Mini with Car Seat

Hi All,

I was thinking of a Mini but am not considering it because I have an 18 month old son and think it would be difficult to get him in and out of the car seat + it might also have some safety drawbacks for him.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bernard

Thank you for the welcome.

Yes having patience is the key. So I see we Californians aren't the only ones who do crazy commutes! 30 miles takes an hour huh? yuck. I feel for you. At least you are driving something you enjoy right? Since you spend so much time in it.
I was thinking about getting the iPod for our cars. It sounds very tempting considering how much driving we do.
