Montana Leather

Just was looking at MSN review of 2004 325 and on there they mentioned if you want the "natural leather" you will get "Montana Leather"

I orderd the Natural Leather but never heard anything about "Montana" What is the differece?

"Montana" leather is a bit more course and rugged feeling than "Nappa" leather which has a slightly softer feel to it.

Natural leather is either the color or a way of implying that it is all leather and not the "Leatherette-imitation/leather"

It is the color choice. I just never heard the term "Montana" and was wondering the difference between regular leather vs Montana leather. You mentioned it being a little more course - damn

Montana is still quite comfortable but it is not like glove leather. You can see and feel the leather by visiting any BMW dealer. They have plenty of samples around.

What's funny is that it's so close to my leatherette, most people can't tell teh difference at all. If you break in the leatherette, it becomes softer too (there's a noticeable difference btw the driver's seat and the passenger's seat in my car). BMW's leather tends to suck tho. The only one with a noticeably softer feel is teh leather in the M3.

I was kind of bumming about my choice of leatherette, until I sat in a 330i and felt how course the leather seats were. Now I'm glad I opted for the NAV instead of the leather.

I also sat in the G35, and that leather is like buttah!

My grandpa's Camry also has much softer leather seats than BMW. Sadly, our E320's leather is just as crappy so BMW doesn't really have much incentive to improve it.

As did my old Acura TL,

The rugged leather may be actually good in other ways though ? Tougher-durable ??

I am assuming that the firm leather is to keep the driver/passenger(s) in place better during more aggressive driving.
snowsedan04, The G35C's leather is firm, but I don't think it's full, real, leather.

Of course it's "full, real, leather"!!! Do you think it comes from a poser cow? [8] Maybe it's water buffalo.....

BTW, the leather is not firm, it is the cushion underneath that's firm. [bash] [chair] The leather in a G35SC is pulled tight for sure.

As you know our BMW seats are firm as well, one thing I love about the Germans are their firm car seats. The leather feels very smooth to me. [drinking]

As I was doing my semi-annual leather care routine the other day, I found the driver's seat in essentially new condition, so the leather and stitching is holding up pretty good. BTW, I stopped by the dealer this week and got my first look at a gorgeous 645Ci - the leather feels very soft and supple - which one would expect on a $75K machine.

I love my leather, it is firm and strong! (no I'm not gay).
I love the way it smells int he car, you can always tel the difference between a BMW and any other car just by the way the leather makes the inside of the car smell.

Love it!

It's firm, but it's still softer than BMW leather. And yeah, the firmness is due to the cushions underneath. I just a leather's softness by lightly running my hand over it. If it's soft and supple like my Coach wallet, than I like it. If it's hard and plasticky like the leather on a Gucci/Prada wallet, than I don't like it.
