Last weekend I stopped by the BMW dealer and checked out the new Mini convertible. They had 5 or 6 of them, ranging from the $21,000 base, to a loaded $28,000 Cooper S. Seems like a pretty well-done car. Definitely looks like it would be a really fun around-the-town cruiser. Utility space is essentially non-existent, so trips would pretty much be an impossibility unless you could pile your stuff in the back seat. The rollback canvas roof is interesting. I don't know how much I'd use it, though - I'd probably just put the top down instead. The back seat is useless. When I sat in the driver's side back seat, my left shoulder was annoyingly smashed by the convertible top well and I was pushed towards the center of the car. There is no leg room in the back whatsoever. It's more for looks than anything - you'd only be able to put a little kid back there, and then they wouldn't be able to see out of the car.
I didn't get to drive one, because I was ignored by the Mini salespeople, as usual. Funny thing was that after looking at the Minis, I walked over and began looking at a new $48,000 330i ZHP and was immediately approached by a very nice saleslady who immediately asked me how she could help me. Kinda interesting how I was ignored by the people selling a car I'd actually have a chance of affording, but immediately treated very well by the people selling a car I wouldn't have a chance in this world of owning.
