1997 318 tds, m41, four door, right hand drive.

New (pre owned vehicle) owner, realized owner manual not in car...

only wish to read about aspects of dash
board operations and what the idiot lights mean and all that.

What some unfamiliar buttons mean, aside from common sense.
And general info about the car.

looking for possible pdf versioin or a web link..

On a slightly different vein, are pdf service manuals available? I would like to find one for my '02 M3. It's out of (BMW) warranty and I may have to do some things the aftermarket warranty will not cover.

Yes. Go to the BMW NA website, register with your VIN and you can download any of the E46 M3 owners manuals. I downloaded mine with a production number and read it before I took delivery.
