yeah, I ended up floating over to Bimmerforums. I haven't had a real problem in a while tho. When I do, however, I tend to come here. You guys are nicer and don't act like idiots.

Thanks for the compliments, but sometimes we act like idiots, I told Graham to look for a gas leak with a match...Seriously we are a small family, but these guys get the job done!

Yup, numbers are down in the e30 section... Maybe Scotty scared everyone away? [paranoid] j/ks

Just fixed a pritty nasty brake fluid leak last night that turned into a PITA, the little non return valve that feeds the rear brake circuit just under our brake master cylinders that has every fuel line (including filter) in the way [:)]

Am going to be installing new Nolathane stabilizer "D" rubbers front and back tomorrow night and clean up/repaint around where that brake fluid striped the paint on top of the right side chassis rail.

Oh and Dan0384, My username is "clutchsnappy" over there at bimmerforums!

I think I'm gunna go to bed now eh, bout 9:15pm here in Aussie atm [:o]

Peace.

Yeah Joseph, I noticed you over there every now and then. I do kinda have a simple cosmetic questions though. I picked up a european filler plate for the rear. Anyone know the best way to attach that? (without drilling holes)

You're probably right!! "wadda you mean you don't know how to change you're oil on your 330i?" .... "your hood opens backwards!!" ... "Your battery is dead!!"[?|]

Hehehe, oh well, that's what we're here for... answer as many questions as possible![:D]

Discontinued modles should have most of the problems Tom... I guess most of them are dying off now though. Heck, I see a lot of E36's that look terrible... they look like the e30's might outlast most of them!

In this case I think its just that many of them are at different forums. r3vlimited, e30zone and others are thriving with e30 owners. But I rarely visit those forums (Unless I have a specialist query) because of the huge amount of crap you have to sift through to find the decent threads.

You're right about the e36's too. When I bought my first e30 it was a 14yo car. e30's were just getting cheap enough for the average teenager or early twenties kid to afford. Now a 14 yo car is an e36, and they are priced similarly to the e30's were back then. So it makes sense that the current crop of teenager will be after the more modern e36.

Great I say - they usually couldn't afford good examples which means they've thrashed, trashed and crashed, rolled, bowled and assholed many of the rubbish and average ones, so those of us with mint examples are now experience a period of price-holding. I expect that soon my car will actually be increasing in value.

I would rather own an E30 than an E36 personally. I think the E30 has a character to it that the 36 does not, kind of like the new 2002, a collectors car with spunk...

You're right Graham... I think good E30's are definately not going to get cheaper, more like rarer, and more expensive.... (we paid $8K for a mint 89 325i), and I think we could probabaly flip it in a few years for more than what we paid. The two cabrio's in the driveway are in very good shape as well, and I think $3K for the red one was a bit of a steal... there were lots of things wrong with it, but I fixed it all for around $800 and just a few hours of fiddling around and fixing misc. crap. I could proabably get $6K for it now. This guy is flaming mad:

oh, and about the different forums... Maxbimmer is my local forum, but I harly ever post on there because it's mostly garbage... Here, there are actually some real tests to our knowledge of these cars (BMW's in general).
And I would want an E30 over an E36 any day (M3 E36, over a 1984 318i, obviously), but other than that... There was a E30 318is with a turbo'd S52 in it, and my E30 were two nice clean examples at the spring cruise, and a whole pile of garbage E36's (and maybe 2 nice E36's... both M3's). They (e36's) really aren't aging well, especially the ones that didn't come with painted skirts (What was BMW thinking not painting the skirts/bumpers?)

yeah, Bimmerforums has it's fair share of garbage and BS, but it's active as hell. But I know you guys offer good quality advice. Even though, pretty much the main active members are Graham, Joseph, Dan, and Scotty.

Also, the problem i've run into with the plate filler is the little plastic things the US plate screws into. I have to pretty much break them to get them out, but can't find replacements. If I don't replace them, it doesn't seem like there is much for the plate to screw into.

Hmmm, not too sure about the plate fillers as my e30 is an 84' (pre number plate filler) so yeah.
I would think that you could just drill two new holes in your plate and relocate the original holes?

Am I talking crap?

Nah, it's not crap. Just not what I need. If I could find replacements, I could install them with the plate in-place, and that would be a way to secure it. I really don't want to drill new holes if I don't have to.

Unless I did somekind of bolt setup, and screwed the nut on from the outside. (maybe put a lock washer on before the US plate meets the filler piece. That may be my easiest and cheapest bet.

Edit: Played around with it today. I was able to get the pieces out without destroying them. So I re-used them, but I still may need to redo it and adhere the filler plate with some double stick tape. I have some heavy duty stuff at work that will do nicely.
