HELP - vibration type noise

Within the past week, I have noticed a vibrating type noise while driving my car. It only occurs when I accelerate from a dead stop and there is no noise upon deceleration. I tried listening to my car pretty closely in an attempt to isolate where the sound is coming from, but no luck. The other thing is that when I accelerate after I hit 35 - 40 mph, there is no vibrating noise.

The car has about 129600 miles on it and it is a convertible -- relatively new tires and brakes, new control arm, steering column and some other work was done about a year ago, but I can't remember the laundry list of things.

It's been suggested that it could be the center support bearing or the flex disc . . .

Any ideas, suggestions? I will be calling my mechanic soon, but wanted to try and get an sense of what could be going on, if possible.

Thanks!

When you accelerate, things flex under the car in a particular direction, and flex the opposite way on decel, which usually explains why you get the vibration only on accel.

Yes, center bearing and flex disk are possibilities. Other possibilities, I assume it is coming from underneath the car, and not inside the car or under the hood:

- Exhaust pipe heat shield at Oxygen sensor rotted - just rip it off, it's not available as a replacement part, unless you replace the cat pipe. (common problem)
- Rear mounting holes for under car heat shield torn thru - reinforce with large washers
- Center exhaust mounting bracket rusted through where bracket attaches to pipe

(Ask me how I know about these problems, hehe)
