Front end clunking/squeeking

I'm having a clunking and squeeking sound come from the front end suspension area. I recently had the control arm bushings replaced and put hub centering rings on. I can hear the squeek and clunk at low speeds and when going over bumps in the road. My mechanic says the suspension looks fine. $750 dollars later I'm still having the same problems. Any suggestions???
Thanks

Control arms, strut mounts, tie rods, struts, the entire front end really.

Put it up on a lift and get under there and bang around (carefully). If it's making a noise, something is most likely amiss.

And one other suggestion: find a new mechanic.

Thanks I'll probably have to do a total front end overhaul. What's the best way to check the strut mounts? I think you're right on the money with the "new mechanic" suggestion. Thanks again

The best way is to dissassemble the whole tower and look at the mount. I don't think it's the bearing in the mount. If you open your engine bay on both shock towers you'll see a dust cap; remove it see if the bearings in the mount are lubed.

I've seen very seasoned mechanics drive one of the front wheels hard on an elavated bump in the road with one mechanic on the ground listening and the other listening from the top (motor). These guys were very skilled at pin-pointing noises and resolving the noise on the first part they replaced.

The best thing is to get under there and start measuring everything and banging around (carefully). Look for obvious things.

Also, what type of noise is it? Clicking? metal on metal? tap? thud? etc. Can you recreate the noise? Does it happen when going over a hole in the road or only bumps?

Are all the other bushings down there in good shape? (tie rods, etc)

The mechanic's answer would piss me off and I'd probably start arguing with him until he issued me a refund for any of his labor. I would pay the portion of the $750 for parts, but none for his labor because frankly an answer like his/hers is unacceptable. And I would refuse to pay for his shoddy "guess work." Although, your car may have needed control bushings anyway.

Also, don't rule out the fact that he installed the bushings incorrectly. Was it making the noise prior to the replacement?

It was making the clunking noise before I took the car to him. The only way I can recreate the noise is to jerk the wheel left to right st slow speeds. I can also hear it when I'm turning left or right up into a drive way or going over those big neighborhood bumps. It sounds like a dull metal on metal clunking / knocking. Also there is a very annoying squeak that happens at slow speeds but dies down a bit as I increase my speed. I brought the car to the mechanic for those two reasons only, knocking and squeaking. I didn't make it out of his parking lot before I heard the sqeak again. Tomorrow I'll be paying him a visit to see where my money went. As far as I could tell my control arm bushings needed to be replaced, but I think I'll end up replacing my drop links, sway bar bushing and anything else made out of rubber. I'll also try your suggestion about the strut mounts. I've got a great DIY book from Pelican Parts so I don't think that mechanic will get any more of my business.
If you can think of anything else, let me know. I appreciate your help.
Thanks
