i wouldn't open a battery.

i doubt if the batt in your bmw is oldschool enough to need to be topped up with distilled water.

is it not operating properly?

The car runs great no problems at all.
but there's a three color LED on the battery indicating the charge level.
Green, black and Yellow (charged, need charging, bad charge) and I think the color is black.
I thought that might be the reason.
p.s., it's a 1993 320i,
could be the battery is old or something.

remove it and take it to canadian tire, they can check it for you and tell you if it needs recharging or if it's gone bad.

make sure you have your radio code before you remove the batt as you'll need to input the code to get it to work once you reinstall.
