Basic speaker wiring questions

I'm a total novice to car audio but I've had enough of the stock speakers in the car so I decided to replace some of the speakers. I ordered a set of 4" Infinity Kappas for the rear and 5.25" Kappas for the kickpanels on ebay. I'm trying to figure out how to wire these babys up. I don't even know whether I need the crossover that came with the speaker--I found a webpage that said BMWs crossover are built into the amp so essentially I would need to replace the amp to get the most out of the speakers. Anyone know if this is true? I am not about to buy an amp too.

The crossover has four wires which go into the speakers on one side and the red and black coming out the other side. But to which wires in the amp do the red and black get hooked up to? There's dozens of wires hooked into the amp.

I know to most people this is pretty simple stuff but I've never done any audio wiring on my own before. BTW-the head unit is a decent Alpine installed about 5 years ago. Everything else is stock.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, after much research I found out how the speakers should be hooked up and I installed one rear 4" but it sounds terrible. After more teeth-grinding and research I've come to find out that yes, indeed, new speakers are USELESS without a new amp with BMWs audio system. So now my options are either 1) buy a new amp and all new RCA wiring or 2) buy speakers from Bavarian Soundwerks which will work with the stock amp.

Not sure what I'm going to do at this point.
Anyone know of a third option?

So let this be a lesson to anyone searching this subject in the future...
