Hello All,

I currrently own a 94 Camaro Z28 (6 speed). so I am used to a fast car. I need to get a automatic this time around for the wife. Will I miss my Z28 much after getting the 325i.

Thanks,

Night & day...

The feel of the 325 will floor you [:D]. The build quality is unmatchable, the interior, the comfort; all top of the line. But there's no comparison as far as engine power. Say goodbye to that v8 growl & all the torque... Of course you could always have a second car... [driving]

If you're looking at going with an auto, you may think about the 330, a few more ponies, though costs a few more $'s.

I have a friend w/ a Z28 auto only slightly newer. Her car is WAAAY faster than my car. I have an auto 325. I know not to race anything but the amish in their horse drawn carriages.

I have had a Z28 (older one) with a 305 V8 and tuned-port injection. Fun and lots of power. Do I miss it? Sure I do...as a fun car. That said, I would never get rid of my 325ci.

You see, in my opinion, power is totally over-rated and is useless at a certain point. Would I love to have an M3? Yes. Then I ask myself why. Aside from bragging rights and the occaisional thrill of accelerating onto a highway, all that power is useless. You don't need it and if you use it too much then your likely gonna get yourself in trouble.

184HP is plenty.
225HP is totally enough.
333HP is ridiculous.

I'll take a 184HP BMW over a 300+HP Chevy. The BMW gives you the whole package.

my opinion

I have a 99 WS6 Trans Am. With some minor tweaks and upgrades I have about 380 hp. I too thought the exact same thing as far as fun. However, I recently got a new job which is a 40 mile commute one way. I had to make the decision based on a more econimical standpoint.

While I could go get a Toyota echo, I still wanted to get a car I would enjoy. BMW seemed to fit the bill. I like the G35's and IS300's as well. But BMW is more trusted at this point. I may get my wife a G35. But she wants an automatic cuz of all the traffic around D.C.

Anyhow, back to your question. Why are you getting rid of the Camaro? I wish I could keep my car and get the Bimmer but I can't afford it.

While my car will be in here about 3 weeks, I KNOW it won't come close to the speed my Trans Am has. However, I do believe they handle turns better. Plus, with the 330i PP top speed is 155. Although it'll take forever to get up that fast. As for the torque, the Bimmer won't come close.

Just a point of note, a 2003 M3 did try to race me. :) All he saw were my tail lights. [hihi]

I have to get rid of the Camaro because we have our second child due in 3 weeks. We already have an Acura MDX. But for the times that I will have the kids, the camaro will not be a great vehicle with 2 car seats.

WS6's are fast, My friend test drove one and he said he has never driven anything like it. Unfortunately, the insurance for an 18 year old would be outragious for that kind of car [:(]

agreed

Yah insurance was an issue. I pay about $1200/year but I'm 31 and married.

The good thing is, when my new BMW arrives it will drop down to $900/year.

Cdotger, Well children come first and I can understand the reason behind getting rid of the Camaro. One good thing to look at is the safety in a BMW compared to the Camaro. Also, a normal human can't fit in the back seats of a camaro or firebird. It will definitely be a hassle using baby seats in there.
Especially with the huge doors.

All in all, I think you're making the right decision.

My wife has already told me that when we have kids, I have to get a mini-van. [rofl]
We'll see about that. At least you get a BMW with your kid.
If I do have to get a mini-van, that thing will be souped up!!!

If you love muscle cars..stay Z-28,

To me, Even more recent Camaro's & TransAms from a "style" perspective remind me of the 8o's.

Oh Gawd do I miss Pat Benetar ![fake]
