200,000 and still going

Well, it looks like I'll hit the 200,000 mile mark in my car tomorrow. I've got to run down to New Orleans and it should roll over while I'm on the bridge going over the lake. I'm super pumped. Now, I haven't put all 200,000, but I've atleast done 1/3 of it. I wish I had a camera to mark the occasion. Just thought I'd share my joy with everyone.

I've got about 265,000 on mine now. I ring the piss out of it every time I drive it.

Here's a testament to the awesomeness and just how bulletproof BMW engines are:

I had my car's safety and emission inspection done today since I am changing the registration from SC (a non-emission state) to NC (an emission state). The fail cutoff for hydrocarbons is 220 ppm, and the fail cutoff for carbon monoxide is 1.20%. My car produced only 91 ppm HC, and 0.11% CO!!!

I have 265,000 miles on the original engine, it's never been rebuilt and the original catalytic convertor. How awesome that this car has that many miles on it, is completely original, and can still pass the emissions test with a huge margin to spare?!?! I swear, this car will last forever!

I would keep it as long as possible and see how many miles you can put on it before it dies for good, but by then the emissions standards will have changed and you won't be able to run it anymore.

I have 298,000 on my 1992 325i and it still runs strong. The car has seen a lot of track time and whenever I go to the mountains, I drive it pretty hard. I maintain it meticulously, having exceeded 3,000 miles vetween oil changes only once. The rest of the car is starting to fall apart but the drive train is still good -- had it in Watkins Glen in July (with Car Guys) and regularly saw 118 on the back straight before the chicane. Used to get it up to near 125 when it had around 200,000 miles on the odometer.
