1985 325e Speedometer Problem

I detail cars as a part time business..I have a buddy that just brought a 85 325e that I'm working on. The speedometer wants to jump up and down on it while driving...I'm wondering if this is just the cable that needs grease or replacement...thanks for any help!

there should be a sensor in the rear axle...push it in, or replace it

thats what the problem was on my car, but i have an e36, so im not sure if its the same

Woah dude you have the oldest e36 ever.

Anyways, erratic speedo = bad speed sensor in the rear dif. Could be something else, I'm pretty sure justin replaced gears and stuff so he would probably know.

So you are saying it a speed sensor on the back axle? that could be it.

Yea probably. It's in the differential, its easy to get to.
