I am the new owner of a 1996 328is and last week my check engine light came on. I purchased the Peake diagnostic tool and it indicated a bad oxygen sensor after the cat convertor on cylinders 1-3. My question is.... Does this model car have two oxygen sensors or four ? I was told by a salesman that my model has two before the cat convertor and two after it. Thanks in advance.....

it should have 4 ... 2 on each exhaust pipe , before and after the catalytic converter ... preatty easy to check as mankiks323i indicated. You can also check the ETM files, it's really good stuff that I've used many times for different e36.

My car only has one oxygen sensor! :-D

Just replace them... you might be able to (if you are handy with electronics) buy a universal O2 sensor, then soldier the old wire harness to the new wire. Atleast, that's what I did and it works fine.
