Depends on what you use and where you get it or who does it. I do my own and use Mobil 1. Oil and Mahle filter kit cost me about $32.00, considering my roadster uses 7 qts. In fact I am about to go out now and change the oil.

basically it´s not that confusing. not even that hard. on the bottom side of the engine is the oil pan. there is a screw that when lossened it will release the oil from the pan. after that you change the filter which is located in the engine bay. get the screw in again and refill with your oil of choice. u better make sure that the oil is not boiling hot when you want to change it and make also sure not to spill any. environment rules, you know?

if you want to do it yourself, go and find yourself a DIY book. there are some outthere that should cover this need.

Over here several parts houses and garages will take used oil for recycling. Schuck's takes mine all the time! There are several web sites with DIY instructions on changing the oil on a BMW.

I'm not sure if it's a law or not, but all the quick-oil change places around here let you pour your used oil into their large containers. I sometimes just take mine over to the recycling center which takes it for free too. They have a big container and I just pour my oil pan into there. There is probably not much worse for the water company than used oil going down the drain.

Wow, very cool! Even tells you how to reset oil service indicator. Thanks chi_chi!
That's a good site. That guy does good work. Kinda funny though the rubber gloves and that huge torque wrench on the filter cap. It screws to the end and stops.

I might go down and try this idea of connecting the pins for 3-5 seconds. I haven't had my serivce light reset in ages....mine is one of the first months productions, so I can't control it from the dash. Hmmmm....
