I am soon due for some new rubber. I have std 16inh wheels in oz and need all you guys opinion on what is the best rubber.
heard that the continentials are the best round here but then i have heard other stories. done 61k. need good grip and quiet if possible
Good grip and quiet is hard to get from the street high performance tires. Long life also hard to expect. Tread pattern and compound play a big role.
When you make the rubber stickier, you have to make the compound softer, which affects life span. Water extraction also requires deep grooves and most often "V" style tread pattern - increases drone.
That said, you most likely just need a good All-Season tire. Continental Conti-Sport 2 are pretty good. But I would not buy the 1st generation. past 50% of wear they lose wet grip pretty badly.
Also consider Dunlop SP9000 Bridgestone Potenza RE750, Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. That's a far as I've heard about the High Performance All-Season tires that are fairly quiet, decent street grip wet or dry (no snow) and OK life span. You may have some other models or designations that are sold in OZ, so check the market.
