Well I went to Northwest Mini's in Fife today and checked out their inventory. They had about a dozen cars on the lot but said that they are all sold and they are taking orders. They charge about $500.00 over MSRP, so I will be shopping around. They did have a John Cooper edition on the showroom floor and it was sweet. Still looking...

Not yet and I am going to shop around. I get the impression that Fife Mini is creating a waiting list and thereby raising the price without merit.
That is probably what is going on. The BMW dealer here always has a ton of minis on the lot, and they certainly aren't charging OVER MSRP.

I got a nice letter from Rasmussen BMW in Portland the other day, they got my information off the Mini web site. They charge $195.00 over MSRP which I still think is robbery, however they took the time to write a letter, whcih Fife BMW has not done. I am still looking around.

Who the hell charges money over MSRP? Are you sure it's not $200 or $500 over OEM??? The MINI is far from a new car and far from a high-demand-low-supply situation.

And yeah, if you want the John Cooper Works engine upgrade package, it will run you $4,700 for 207bhp (168hp stock). You can also get JCW brake kit and suspension kit, but that will increase the price even more.

There are only two Mini dealers in the Pacific northwest, one in Fife (near Seattle) and one in Portland, other that I would have to go to California 13 hours away. Neither dealer has any new Minis in stock, both state they have waiting lists. Fife wants almost $600.00 over MSRP and Rasmussen wants $195.00 over MSRP not "OEM", there is no mistake about it. By not stocking any they are creating a false demand and driving up the price. There is only one Mini dealer in Nevada, Las Vegas, too far and none in Idaho or Montana. I am going to call the dealer in Sacramento Monday.

Even though it is not a new car, the Mini is in high demand, especially stick and S models. Demand definitely outstrips supply. That's a major reason why there are no dealers in secondary markets - there are not enough cars to satisfy existing dealers orders.

The factory is building a new production line to increase capacity. But demand is not to the point that dealers should be charging a premium over list.

I just checked their website and they have about five "S" models in stock all with automatics, no thanks!
BMW added an auto tranny option to the S models? I thought they were exclusively manual..

In NYC area you can pickup a Mini at invoice, it might be cheaper to purchase one out here and then ship it to WA... or drive it .

Yeah, for the new model years, you can get auto with the Cooper S. I guess too many people wanted the more powerful model without dealing with stick shift, but it's so anti-MINI.

I am still looking but at invoice I would be better off to buy the car in Portland and pay the $195 over MSRP. I will not pay over MSRP so maybe a trip to Vegas and drive one back from that dealer? We will see.

Two things piss me off about the MINI:

1.) The MINI Cooper S starts at $20,600 or so and you can load it up with options to easily make it more than double its original value ($40K+).

2.) After all these options, including all the overpriced stuff from John Cooper Works, it still only does 0-60 in 6.3 seconds.

It would be so much nicer if the MINI did the 0-60 in 6 seconds flat with the JCW package and was thousands cheaper.
