Well I finally got a Bimmer. I have been wanting one for years...

It is a 323is, and I have a few questions. I have done some searches, to try to get info, but hopefully you guys don't mind answering a few...

The wheel center caps. I need to buy three (decals only?) What is the best place to find them (used? decals only? new?) Plus what is the size? I saw a few different ones....

Should I buy a Haynes repair manual, or buy the Bently if money is a factor. Is the Haynes version worthless?

My oil cap cannot be unscewed by hand. Do I need a tool?

Thanks, I look forward to hanging out here

I believe the center cap decal for your car is 65mm and it can be purchased in many places including Pelican Parts and Arizona AutoHaus.

Bentley is the best manual on the market, I would not waste money on a Haynes.

Are you talking about the oil filter cap? I use a large adjustable wrench on it, it should not be too tight, but more than hand tight. There is an actual torque spec. but I just snug mine with the wrench and have never had a problem.

Hope this helps and welcome to the board!

Yeah, the oil filler cap... It is so friggin tight. I have tried twice by hand. i may have to tap it with a hammer when I do my first oil change tomorrow.

Nice car! One of my favorite colors and the 323i is a great E36. Just get that oil filler cap off, use pliers if you need to. For the oil filter cap I actually use a socket. I think it's a 36mm?

If the engine oil cap is way too tight try using a rag and multigrips to undo the cap (without damaging it) it will just spin right off.

Just probably not been taken off in a while, I know the one on my e30 gets tight, I just use a rag for grip.
