Call BMW USA @ 1-800-831-1117. Tell them you want to research a vehicle by it's VIN. They'll tell you the major options, colors and in-service date of the original warranty (if applicable).

Yes they will. I called about my M roadster before I bought it used and they told me the entire repair history. They will not tell you anything about the previous owner obviously, but they are more than willing to let you know if your car has been serviced.
