fuel pressure regulator

Hey guys, anyone have a clue at what milage fuel pressure regulators usually go?

My car has been having trouble starting up for over a year now. I changed spark plugs, battery and the fuel filter but that didn't change anything at all. Lately it has gotten worse and I really can't predict when it will not start (before it would generally only happen when the engine is cold but not always, sometime even when hot). The starter turns the engine over just fine. Most of the time I have to turn the engine over for a long period of time for it to fire, sometimes it will not fire at all, sometimes it will start to fire just after I return the key to the "on" position, strugling to reach idle, it would sputter and the rpms would be jumping below 500 then it would either die or run normally. Other times it would fire pretty fast (normally) but once again, struglle to reach idle (always below it, never above), it feels like there is a misfire on one or more cylinders and everytime it does this, it is always the same except for the outcome (either starts or dies). Usually when I try the second time, it fires up perfectly. Sometimes there is no problem at all.

It happends when the engine is cold, it happends when the engine is at running temp, it happends whenever it feels like misbehaving. Anyone have any ides at all? I would test the fuel pressure but the kit is almost twice the cost of a pressure regulator.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
