When I start my car in the morning I hear what best can be discribed as a slight fan noise that goes away after about 1.5 to 2 minutes. This has been going on for about 7,000 miles and only after sitting overnight. It hasen't gotten any worse or better with the weather changes and the car is garaged. Any ideas? BTW 122K plus on the odo.

ask any one familar with bimmers and they'll tell you it's the secondary air pump. infact anytime you mention fan noise during first two minutes they'll tell you its the secondary air pump. (at least that's the automatic answer i've been getting ^^;
mine whines pretty loud. but it does go away. 2 mins or after warmed up.. not exactly sure. i'm taking my car in for inspeciton 1 this week. i'm going to ask if the fan needs to be lubed or something.. mine is worse when its cold out. i have a 330i btw.
in your case, 2 minutes is the exact duration in which the fan runs. it basically pulls the air going out to the exhaust back into?/around? the engine to help it warm up faster.
