I am partial to cloth seats rather than leather but don't know if i can get them on the 3 series. I believe that the 3-series come standard with leatherette. I have never seen it. Do any of you have leatherette? Does it wear well? How does it look?

I know lots of people will disagree, but IMO leather is the only choice. If you care for it, it will last a very long time. My 97 5 series has leather, 134k mi and the leather looks and feels brand new. I have seen leatherette and it does not wear near as well as leather. The leather on my car is just beginning to show on the the drivers seat.

I think leather looks the best. Cloth is an option on almost all models in Europe...I have seen a 740iL and an S500 with cloth interior...shocking :-0

My cousin just got a 325i with leatherette. She thought it was leather, and didn't realize until after she bought it (not the sharpest tool in the shed). She does like it now. It does look like leather (kind of), but it feels a bit more "spongy", and you do not slide across it as easy. It is known to be quite durable, like Mercedes' MB-Tex.

Bottom line...get leather. With just a once or twice a year clean/conditioning, it will last years and years...and be better for resale value!!

IMO your BMW is not a BMW unless it has leather. It certainly will not sell as easily at resale time if you ever sell it. You can check your dealer for exact statistics, but I would bet your paycheck that 99% of BMWs are sold with leather.

You: Hey dude, check out my brand new ride. It's a 3 series BMW!!!
Me: Awesome, what options did you get?
You: Everything but leather.
Me: Huh????? What were you thinking?

I have leatherette. It's nice because it is so easy to take care of. Something falls on it, you just wipe it off with water. So far, there's not a bit of wear showing. I've seen some horribly worn leather after just a short while, particularly the side bolsters on sports seats, but my leatherette doesn't show a sign. Plus, it looks just like the leather. If I don't say anything, people don't realize my car doesn't have leather. :)

Honestly I am a bit disappointed with the leather. I am already showing wear in my 2003 on the outside of the driver's seat on the seam (by the seat belt) . I am real disappointed to see something like that so soon.

Or...

Or you can invest the $1450 that leather costs to make partial payment on a 330 with the Performance Package (ZHP). It comes with cloth and alcantara seats as part of the package. Distinctive. And ZHP is a great balance between road manners and a great handling/driving car.

If you're going to buy a Bimmer, get it with leather. I really don't see why there should be an oppportunity cost when buying a bimmer between leather seats and a 330i ZHP
