...speaking of badges the car I bought recently had the model number badge removed, and the ///M badge instead (apparently normal for the Motorsport package cars here).

Except within 3 weeks of owning the car some has ripped it off the back of the car with a crowbar or something.

I don't think I'm going to bother replacing it
1. Makes people want to drag race me at every set of lights
2. Will probably get ripped off in another 3 weeks.

Did you buy a non M3 car with the M3 badge pasted on and someone took off the 325, 328....etc emblem? If so, forget about the M badge. I might be confused on the post. The ///M badge replaced when the stock model emblem was removed? Want some more info so I can help. I would say leave it debadged. What model E36 is it?

i'd take the badge off actually. it looks a little crooked and i think your back could benefit from a cleaning up - by that i mean black everything out =] the blue on the emblem, make it black, the lights get smoked ones....your car could be really stealthy with that body kit =]

It wasn't an M3 badge, just the ///M logo.

Actually its an E46, 2003 318iA Motorsport in Estirol Blue (that kinda sky blue colour in the BMW logo). The ///M logo was on the car from new, because of the motorsport upgrade kit (wheels, suspension, bodykit etc.)

Well, that is not really an issue than, as long as you have the parts, a M styling package. You know what I mean. Hell, anyone who has AC parts, can slap a badge on, well Dinan...a different story, they tend to not give badges unless you buy a EXPENSIVE kit. I have a few AC parts, if I want to slap on a badge....guess it is OK. I have no motor mods though. Still keep my 328i badge on it. M3 and ///M are a bit different. I would never put a M3 badge on my car and debadge the 328i.....I have no M3 stuff on my car. I am going the ACS route. It is all good, if I remember, my 316i had a ///M badge on it that I drove as my beater in Italy...someone put it on there though. My 316 was SO gutless....they sell big in Europe...they charge by the litre size for insurance. Funny thing about Euro spec cars and BMW...different glass, bumpers, gearing......and SMALLER engines than they offer to the US. All about gas economy. In Germany....a BMW and Mercedes are like a Ford and Chevy to us.
