May 06, 2004 / BMW 530i wins 2004 Auto Style Award

Fashion website, eCityofStyle.com, selected the 2004 530i as one of the most stylish 2004 Model Year cars. Out of a field of 100 luxury models, the 530i was chosen as one of five winners, which are selected by the style editors based on several factors including exterior and interior style, innovative details, fun-to-drive factor, product exclusivity and the car's overall envy quotient.

"...the all-new 5 Series is a bold and confident progression of the Bavarian Motor Works' design evolution. The 5 Series flexes long, angular muscles, while head and tail lamps evoke an imposing intent," wrote Ken Panton, editorial director of eCityofStyle.com, "...we at eCityofStyle.com absolutely love BMW's new direction. We applaud their bravery, creating dynamic angles and uniquely contrasting lines that express a consistent brand image."

The new 5 Series has already captured a significant amount of praise in the press. In its March, 2004 issue, Money Magazine selected the 5 Series as Best Luxury Car in their Annual Car Guide. In their annual "Best Sedans 2004" issue, Forbes.com selected the 530i as the best sedan under $50,000. AAA also honored the 5 Series, for the third consecutive year, as the Auto Guide Award Winner in the $35,000 to $40,000 category in their annual AAA Auto Guide: 2004 New Cars and Trucks publication. Also, American Woman Road & Travel announced their selection of the 5 as "Most Dependable - Sedan of the Year" in their annual survey. The 5 Series' position as a technology leader was acknowledged by Automobile Magazine when it chose BMW's Active Steering, which debuted on the new 5 Series, as its 2004 "Technology of the Year". Driving enthusiasts have also responded. The new 525i, 530i and 545i have achieved a year-to-date sales increase of 14 percent over their predecessor models last year.

"We are pleased to receive this acknowledgement for the design of the new 5 Series," noted Martin Birkmann, 5 Series and X5 Product Manager. "The awards and the sales success achieved by the new 5 Series demonstrate the BMW 5 Series remains a design and technology leader that delivers on the BMW driving experience."
